have been taking care of my mom since Saturday 23 March 2008. She has high blood pressure, diabetes, diarrhea, and since she once fell in the kitchen, all attacked her in one day so I have to take her to the hospital...
Today I am waiting anxiously in the office for her return...
When I look at the empty house, I am beginning to have a vision, that this is my life is going to be when she is REALLY not around anymore... I can only hope, now is not that time

Arrogant Maid
“If I to work with you, will I have to take care any children?”
“If I go to work with you, will I have to do many laundries? Do you have any machine to do that?”
“If I go to work with you, will I have to do many cooking?”
“Sorry Mam, I can not go to the market with you. After doing all these laundries together with you just now, I am so exhausted… I just want to go to bed…”
From the above, I just wonder about something. When you go to find work in big city, are you really intended to be a maid or a mistress? Maybe I should change my profession to maid supplier. I do not have to return the charges from customer if the maid decided that she is too good to work there. And when I send the maid to another house, I will have more money! Crazy, huh?

Saving money in the bank
Saving your money in the bank as an investment nowadays? Dream on… Two decades ago perhaps you may be able to do that. Your money really expands after you put them in the bank for future saving. But since 1998 or after that year, I found out that you could loose your money in the bank! Seriously.
I remembered in this X bank, I left 100,000 Rupiahs in my account. Then I did not add anymore money since I have none. And you would think the money will multiply, right? Wrong. After a few months when I was about to add more money, I was surprised to see that the money has become 90,000 Rupiahs! I decided then to close the account to avoid loosing more. I remembered the customer service asked me why I was closing my accounts. She pointed to many people in that bank that was about to open new accounts with them. I snapped back to her saying that only in this bank people could loose their saving just for being inactive for months! But of course, that bank is not the only one to do so. Many other bank started to charged their customer with administration or whatever charges which sometimes I noticed could be more than the interest that you received especially for savings with small amount.
Which is why I laughed out loud when I a few months ago there was this movement to ask people to come to bank and start savings. Yeah, right. The only reason I save my money in the bank right now so it will be easier for me to pay my bills and my insurance. A pity. People have to think other way around to make their savings more useful in the future.

Diet on TV
I just read that many Indonesian parents started to run this diet-tv program at home for their children.
Most of them feel concern about the tv serial or should we say Soap Opera for teens. Should I make a list?
The story is weird and not really makes sense.
In acting expressing their anger or viciousness, the actors and actresses seems can not find any other way rather than just spitting out rude words, screaming and make a huge eye balls come out from their faces.
Everything in life can be solved easily with money and therefore you need to marry someone from rich family.
The rich family just being rich without further explanation from where they have their gold mine. All they have to do is sitting in the office, signing so many (not clear) paperwork’s; bring the briefcase and drive expensive car.
And old people must be stupid, cunning, no integrity, hunger for money but do not want to work, etc, etc.
Why people love these kind soap operas? Well, for one reason they do not wish to think too much while watching TV. Problems in real life already enough to make them feel exhausted. So, whenever there is a chance to escape from the real bitching life to a fantasy world, no matter how absurd the story is (hey, is a fantasy world, right?), they would just swallowed it.
I still remembered when the first bomb in Bali exploded in 2002. I was staying at the hotel with my friends. She brought her nanny to look after her baby. So, I was watching the news intently. Wishing to know which place was got hit and of course how many victims from that sad tragedy. And you know what the maid said? Oh, is so boring. Why they keep on airing this news? Can we watch something else?
I suppose it is not because she does not have a heart or compassion to the tragedy. She is just too tired from daily works, and feels she did not need to depress herself even further by watching more tragedies in real life. Probably by watching fantasy soap operas, she could feel that there is hope in this world. Of course, I would not know whether the hope is to quit from the job and just get married with whomever she could find. I meant, most people hate their job, right? And trying to find consolation through absurd drama story seems to be a very nice way. She could not care less whether the story will make her more stupid than ever. She did not mind that she would spend a lot useless times in front of tv as long as she can dream that she is one of the main cast and being swept by the most handsome man on the planet. Or, at least that is what she thinks.
Right now, I do not know which one I should hate. The soap operas that have started since 06.00 PM Jakarta time on several TV channels. Or the tv movie who adapted stories from movies around the world with the most idiotic way of interpretation. Or this tv show about common people or celebrities with their mother, in this singing contest or talking contest or probably bubbling contest, what ever… As my Mother and my Aunts loves all of that crap, and they just say,"Well, what else I could watch? You are lucky still be able to go outside with your friends? Me, I just stuck at home and therefore do not bother me when I watching those shows!"
Diet TV definitely can not be established at my home… ^_^

Bitter facts of life
Once upon a time, there was this person who has resigned from his office for almost a year now. Suddenly, three months ago, his former manager called him, ask him whether he would like to receive his old job back. Just his old job, so it is not like he will get to be promoted to a higher position. So, he asked his manager to give him a higher salary than before. This bargaining process took almost 3 months. They offered him little by little and he kept on persistent on the amount that he wishes for. Finally they agree on the same amount. He signed all the legal papers and ready to be back to his old job next week.
I was sad to hear this of course. First of all, him being back and all, just gives me more proofs that it is hard finding a decent job out there. Second, it seems I have to resign to have my salary increase ten times than I usually have each year. Like for example, if I usually only have a raise for about 50,000 Rupiahs every year, but by resigning I could receive 500,000 Rupiahs.
I do not know whether I should laugh, feel bitter or just acting as if nothing happen and keep on trying to reach my dream no matter hard it is.

The reason
I have this cousin of mine who came from Surabaya and works here in Jakarta. I said to her jokingly that when she first came here, she has these typical characteristics:
The anxiety to go to the mall for seeing any local celebrities in person, then ask for their autograph and taking photos together….
Looking at the bus full of people and wondering why people in Jakarta seems to love to be stuck with dozens other people inside the bus and always seems in a hurry.
The last one, she looked me in disbelief whenever I told her that I always spend my time on the bus by sleeping. And she said she wondered as well, why can’t people just do something else like reading or just watches the sceneries (hmm, whatever sceneries that might be)
To my joke number one, she neither denies nor agrees. Though she admit that it did cross her mind whenever she go the mall.
And for the last two, well… she finally understands herself why we, the people in Jakarta did that.
In her first weeks, she still refused to go home if she saw that the bus is already full with people. So, she waited, and waited and waited, with all that high heels and stuffs. It was not until she spent two hours waiting for that first weeks then she realized the reason why in the heck people just can not wait to get in to that crowded public transportation. Risk their life by hanging their body on the door. Risk their pocket to all those pickpockets. All for the sake arriving in the office on time. To be home earlier. She said to me, she would rather spend one hour standing all the way home to the bus rather than standing on the street for hours waiting for the empty bus.
The last one, is rather funny. She finally get a house loan from local bank and bought a house in.. well, somewhere far away from her office. So, she have to get up by 4 A.M in the morning. Started her journey to her office at 5 A.M. She has to changed three times on the public transportation. One of them has to travel through the highway for perhaps an hour. And what better things to do in that long boring journey to the office through the highway? SLEEPING, of course! Not bad to cover the lack of sleeping back home.
So, when she finally admit all of that to me, I just manage to give her a big grin and said to her to not judge people or condition, before knowing the real problem behind it.

Chit Chat
Asian people has the way to ask question. They will go around the bush, strolling the street if they have to before finally jumping into the main question.
I received a phone call from our family acquaintance. At first I thought she wish to speak with my Mom. But she was not and here we goes:
Her : Hey, why are you still at home at this hour?
Me : Is Saturday, sis… Our office is closed on Saturday
Her : Really? And what is the name of your office exactly…
Me : The XXXX company
Her : Oh, yeaah, yeah. I kinda forgot the name…. Errrr, and where is the main office?
Me : Oh, the main office is on the JJJJJJJJJ street
Her : Well, you see (ahahhh… here comes the real jackpot) … my son got this telephone saying that he has to go to this interview in XXXX company ….
Me : U-huh… (thanks God… I thought she need my help to get her son a job in the office… Why they always think that I a somebody in that office? So humiliating)
Her : And since we are not sure about the address.//
Me : To which floor he has to go to? (I just want to be sure)
Her : to the 16th floor
Me : Oh, yes that’s right. That is where the HR department located…
Her : I see… Err, you would not be happen to know about this interview call to my son?
Me : Pardon (is that the main question?)
Her : Well, since you are working there, I suppose you would know about this interview to my son…
Me : (Dear God…. It is even worse than I thought it would be)… Sis, you do realize that I am not the owner of the company…
Her : (Laughing sheepishly) Well, yes I know that dear… But, I thought you would know….
(And then she babbling about her son has been sending application, blah, blah, blah…. My mind has wondered to somewhere else)
Her : So, you really do not know?
Me : There are hundreds employees there including me and sadly I am not working at the HR department so…. Nope… I would positively not know about it… Okay, so you wanna talk with my Mom…?
And that’s the end of the conversation. I thought she want to ask for direction, it turn out she was not. I thought she wish to help her son to get a job, thanks God she was not… And all she need to know whether I know about the interview... which of course… how in the heck am I suppose to know??? I considered ridiculous conversation, but my Mom said that it was just her way to have a chit chat…
I guess I am too stiff lately…

Indonesian Infotainment
If you are in the middle of trying to stop mock other people, decided to be decent person for once in while in your life, then pleassse do not watch any Indonesian infotainment on TV. It will break your intention into pieces. Trust me. You will add another and another sin in your life and the terrible thing is you love doing it.
First, just look at the presenter. Just by looking in A GLANCE, a thought already cross your mind. Is she having a domestic violence? Getting slap in both of her cheeks? If not, then why in the heck those cheeks look so red? Or is it a part of the make up? But, I am still positively thinking that she must have physical fight previously.
See? What did I tell you?! Just by looking at them, already a sinister thought come through your mind! Those shows must be forbidden to pregnant women who must not think about unusual things.
Second, the presenters are just fine. But wait until you see the actresses on the news. You see her smiling so broadly on camera. Then you started to wonder, what is that thing that she is wearing? Isn’t that dress supposedly be wear by teens? I mean, she is almost 40 years old or something? Can she just dress elegantly instead trying to be like teens? Maybe all the mirrors in her house are broken or destroyed? Again, you will realize… oh dear! I mocked them! Again! I talked trash about them! Again! And I do not feel guilty about it because they deserved to be talked like that!
Third, the so-called reporter (sorry guys.. . According to the REAL REPORTER, you all not entitle to be called like that)… Eerrr not want to try to push to get all the juicy gossips but… don’t you all have other tings to be asked to a teenagers in love other than when they are going to get married? Or asked the parents do they hate their celebrity son? Dying to add the tension between couples in trouble when they are going to get divorce…. I mean, come on! And do you all hired one camera man and photographer only? The entire angle looks the same. All news gives us nothing new. And please, save the word: PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW THE TRUTH. We are not exactly talking about billion of money that being corrupted. Or the GLOBAL WARMING ISSUES. This is just about when the local so-called celebs are going to take a nap, change the diaper, go to the market, selling their own dresses, opening new stores, cat fight between maniac mother and celeb daughter… Actually, IMHO, PEOPLE do not need to know all the gruesome details. Or is it? My mistake then.
But if you need to boost your confidence about your life; in the most negative way that is, then you probably should watch the show? Why? Well, why not? Look at them. They have money, fame, many opportunities to do something good in this life, but they do not have a brain and heart to do so. Well, not all. Mind you. But then again, most who are brilliant in true life, will have a heart and a brain to avoid being on the show. Anyway, you think you have no money, nobody knows you, so what? Look at them. They have everything, but they can not do anything. They say something stupid and people will remember it all the time. Especially when they are not really such a good performer, you will remember them even more because of all those stupid words. And they are proud because you remember it. See that there is really do something wrong?
But hey, look at you! You can do something stupid, and people just think that this is only one time mistake. Nobody will remember it unless you talked about it over and over again.
