Useless Fight

A few days ago I read from this mailing list about a person gives warning about this taxi named : XXXXX. I thought at first, well the usual stuffs. Like the driver pretend not knowing the road, or decided in advanced how much is the price to go to a certain place, etc, etc. So, as usual I just deleted the letter. It was the response to the letter that attracted my eyes. The person who gives comment said that what a waste of energy to get angry for exchange amounting IDR 500. FYI, IDR9,300 is more or less equal with USD 1. So, you can imagine how worthless the amount of IDR 500.00 already in this time.

Anyway, I started to read the complain letter. In short, the taxi fares for this passenger (let’s call the person : Mr. A) amounting IDR 38,000.00 . Since the passenger did not have the exact amount to pay the fares so he went out to find small change and got it. So, he pays the driver in the exact fares. It turn out while the passenger was trying to find the small change, the fares keep on rolling so he asked the passengers more money, as the amount has turn into IDR 28,500.00 already. The passenger gave the driver IDR 1,000.00 and demands to get the return amounting IDR 500.00. This caused both of them into mouth argument ended in a nasty fight.

The funny thing, most of us the reader, did not sympathize with the passenger. Because, well… come one… why did he not just give that IDR 1000.00 to the driver? These days, there are so many taxis from many companies. Imagine the high and tiring competition that the drivers must endure everyday. If you are so short of money, then for heaven sakes try to prepare small change starting from home! The driver perhaps not an innocent person on this as the fares should stop when they have arrived to the destination. But why most of the readers sympathize with the driver? Perhaps we could understand why the driver pissed because the passenger would not just give him that small amount. Perhaps he has driven all day and this is the very first passenger that he got and he was far away from the amount that he should deliver to his boss. Both parties are guilty, I suppose. Then again, please be reminded that you should be glad that you are the person who could give rather than the person who could only ask. If you are really so short of money, then (again) prepare small amounts to avoid this useless fight.

Article from Reader Digest Indonesia

A few days ago, I read this good article by Prisilia Winna Efendi in Reader Digest Indonesia’s mag (sighed. Wondering why my brain could not produce something as good as this recently). The article is about what’s your calling in life.

She said that she is probably one of many people (including me) who despise our job but too afraid to quit from it. Why? Well, whether we are willing to admit it or not, we have been enjoying our comfort zone all these times. By being the employee of a company, you surely will receive salary at the end of the month. Your medication will be covered at least 75% by the insurance which provided by the company. You could apply for house loan, car loan, or whatever loan to cover your other expenses. (For the record, since I still have this dream that I could quit from this job, I do not use the house loan facility)

Anyway, back to the article. She also said that due to the load of works, she barely have time to do the thing that she loves the most. Which is: writing (gue banget gitu loh!) She was too tired to do that after office hour.

And then one day, she decided that she will make herself happier by doing that hobby of her again. She is back in writing her diary, her blog, join the writing community; in short she is back doing that again. She found herself typing stories or anything during lunch hour in her office while sipping her coffee. She manage to find time to bring happiness back to her life.

And as for her job, since she can not just quit, she decided that she will make the best of it. If she can not make the job fun for her, at the very least she will try to make the environment more comfortable.

Good advice. I have been trying to do the same thing lately. Just write whatever things come on my mind. And still have that dream to become the next JK Rowling. Okay, that ‘s too much. I wish I have at least one book to be published before I reach the old age

Quill

If you are an animal lover or dog lover for more precisely, then this is the movie for you. This is a Japanese movie about a guide dog (for blind people).

A Labrador puppy was sent to live with a couple Isamu and Mitsuko Nii. They are volunteers to train guide dogs until they are one year old before entering the training centre. The couple named the dog: Quill. Quill has this birthmark look like cross but sometimes look like bird spreading its wing.

After he is one year old, Quill started his training in the centre with the trainer : Satoru Tawada. The trainer was concern as Quill seems taking the lesson slower than the other dogs. But later he found out that Quill has unusual patience and strong bonding with him. The trainers then try to offer Quill as a guide dog to this elderly named: Mitsuru Watanabe. However Mitsuru is a stubborn person with so much prides. He considered a total weakness to let a guide dog lead his way. But when he finally got an accident because he hit on something, he gave up and started to learn to let Quill help him. They went through uneasy process before finally have strong bonding. Quill was also loved by the whole family member of Mitsuru. Everything went out fine before Mitsuru got really sick and these two odd friends separated by death. 10 years later Quill returns the previous couple who trained him in the first year. He spent his days until he reach the age of 12 years old and passed away.

I can’t stop crying while watching this. I do not know why, but watching the friendship between them, and the way it ended really moved me. I always love watching movie about friendship between animal and human. But this movie is the best, IMHO. There were not too many dialogues. We watch and learn about the relationship through the gesture, the expression, well anyway Quill did not give much expression on his look, but you get the info whether he was happy or sad.

This movie based on a true story. You may look the official website at : http://www.quill-movie.com

Spender

Do you still remember that I kinda vowed to myself that I would try to save some money this year? Yeah, right… It has been only the second month of the year 2008, but I have failed completely! I am such a total spender. If I have 20,000 then I will spend at the least 90% of it just for fun. The rest of it will be use for daily use like transportation, lunch, etc.

It seems so hard to see the money just sitting in my account. I have got to use them for almost about everything! Especially whenever there is promos, big sale or price reducing. As even I pondered myself at the purchasing time, do I really need this wool sweater? Or what am I going to do with hand gloves, here in Jakarta? But, of course, I always have excuses to allow myself to finally buy those things. I know for a fact that I do not need it now. But, who knows? I probably be able to go abroad someday on Autumn or even Winter! In other word, most women were probably using these excuses. Well, I do not need it now. But I am positive sure that I will need this someday. And usually when I need certain things, I could not find it anywhere. And even I do find the stuff the price is so expensive. Or, being the plus size, how can I say no to cheaper dresses offered by the store whereas the price usually more expensive than regular clothes. In other word, you will find many reasons to justify this purchase of yours.

But anyway, this is just the second month of the year 2008. I still have 10 more months to go. Let us just hope, I will not fall into another crazy shopping and gagged when I have to pay the bills

SUSHI TEI

zI think I am in the mood for talking about food and drinks right now. And today topic is my other fave eating place : SUSHI TEI! (Just the mention of the name already makes me drooling)

Ages ago, eating sushi was soooo not me. In fact, every time a friend of mine asked me to go and eat sushi; well I was not just flinching. But also fallen into deep desperation of trying to find a way to suggest other eating-place. I have tonz of reason. But mainly, I am not a food lover who enjoyed tasting and searching for new food for the experience. I love food that I know can make my stomach full and cheap and familiar taste. So, eating sushi was like, oh dear. It will complete none of the above. The price is not cheap. The size of it is so tiny. So, every time I went to any Japanese restaurant, I would order noodles or fried rice or anything but sushi.

Then one day, I was in this open-minded mood for food tasting. And plus (the most important part), my friends buying the meal. Then I thought, well there is nothing to loose for this. If I was still hungry after the meal, I could just find another substitute later.

My friend asked me to go to Sushi Tei that day. It was almost lunch time and soon the place were packed with many people. Most of them willing to wait in line before they could get table. Since I have no idea about the sushi, my friend ordered most of them and explained to me how to eat it. There are wasabi, ginger, dry chili, soy sauce to eat with the sushi. And after that…it was like the magic was there. Okay, this is a bit exaggerating. But anyway, since that time, I was hooked to the place and started craving for more. With my own expenses of course, mind you. Which is why I love eating at Sushi Tei. Probably because they provide us with tolerable price for the several sushi and not to mention free drink: OCHA!

Well, I guess eating could be adventurous like life itself. You try this new food. And you could end up liking it (although once avoided) or you just promised silently that you would never ever eat that thing again. So, let us be wild and try something new with affordable expenses.

Starbuck

When my friends introduced me to Starbuck, I almost flinch in pain. I mean, for heaven’s sake… , the price for one cup of coffee or Frappucino is more or less the same with burger package meal or two bowls of noodle. Totally crazy.

I always feel reluctant whenever they asked me to have a drink there or at other café, as they all have the same expensive price. Not to mention that drinking those caffeine drive me to the insomnia state for days! (I rarely drink coffee. The last time I drink coffee was in the university to stay up to study for the exam). Plus, I did not know why but my stomach always gets queasy after eating the cake from that café. In short, if there is another place to chat rather than café, I would rather go to that place.

But, as times goes by, I started to enjoy drinking Frappucino or Hot Chocolate at Starbuck. I even have my fave sofa at Starbuck Plaza Senayan and Plaza Indonesia or at Thamrin. Why I suddenly have the change of heart? Well, even though the price is outrages (IMHO), but we are allowed to enjoy our drink by sitting there for hours and hours. And the recent addiction to chat with my friends recently has increased my visits to Starbuck outlet. Chats helps me to ease problems from my mind for a while. Which is why, I keep on coming back from time to time. Not to mention that by using a certain credit card, I could have upsized the drink or pay 1 to get 2 drinks occasionally. What more could I ask?

I can not imagine that finally I could enjoying to drink something soo expensive (but gooood) to make me relax and enjoying my spare time. I guess peace of mind is hard to find or I am just another snob.

A blunder

When I first saw this cover last week, I was like … what the heck does “Tempo” think? Why did they put the picture of the late Soeharto in the Da Vinci’s painting named: The Last Supper? Surely they did not mean to mock our God, did they? But then I saw this small article in the daily newspaper : Sinar Harapan, saying that they did not mean to insult the Christian by using this picture. Well, nice to know that.

But IMHO, I really think that as one of the most prestigious magazine; they should be at least more careful and use their brain. I think, that as the media, they should also be responsible to maintain peace and respect between people with different religions. I am sure they do not want people to think like: no wonder they were once banned from publishing their magazine. What is the use of the editor if they can not even sense that something like this could offend other people? Or they just want to make another sensation to boost the selling and profit? What a cheap strategy to do so.

Their apology accepted of course. And considering that the article was small, I am positive to think that people hardly aware about it.

Stupid quote

A speech, quoted from this new soap opera actress, is able to drive me to
write this ; divided into three different point of views.

The actress (who half German half Indonesia) said that her Indonesian
language is not so good. Therefore she intended to go to AUSTRALIA in
order to study the INDONESIAN language.

Okay, is it just me or does anyone notice that there is something not
quite right with the above? I wish to study Korean language. Therefore, I
will go to Venezuela. Huh? Do I need to comment more?

Point view no 1.

Board of Education should feel more concern about this. Okay, she is only
one person. But, to study native language in another country, which is not
using that native language, is it education here really that bad? Maybe
she is not the only one? Perhaps later, we should study our language in
Netherlands?

Point view no 2.

I found that quoted speech from forwarding letter in my mail. The actress
not just being quoted once, but I counted there are 17 quotes, including
one that I wrote the above. And I was like, wow… how can that person
remember all that? Did he watch all her interview on TV and write it all
down?

I recalled from my own experiences. I could retell my friends, stories
from old movies or comics that I have read ages ago, in details. Most of
them were of course fascinated and assuming that I really like those
movies or books or comics, in order to be able to memorize them for so
long. And they are all guessed correctly. If I look or read on something,
that really mesmerized me, my brain just capture the image and keep it
always in those many memory shelves. It took me same occasion thought, to
bring those memories back and share it with my friendsJ

Another case, my Mom has this hobby to watch this absurd drama TV, air
daily by this TV Station (once so promising, but now so agonizing). I
called it absurd, because the story just copied from fairytales around the
world (like Romeo and Juliet, and recently even Stardust) including
locals. They use the character’s name exactly the same like the original
story, but located in somewhere-not-so-clear-location in this world. The
worst part, none of the casts uses their own voice. All dialogues are
dubbed. I do not understand why, but my Mom is sooo glued to this show. I
hate that show so much, I am able to remember that this episode already on
air yesterday or a month ago! And it annoyed me so much; I even managed to
notice that this story is the same as before, only with different casts!
What drive me nuts, that my Mom could not remember that this episode has
already been on air a few days ago. So, while typing this story, I have to
bear the pain of my heart and mind by listening to all crap dialogues from
that show on TV. Sighed.

So, I guess is true. You will be able to remember things in details only
if you really like that thing or hate it so much. Does the person who
quotes all that doing so because she or he likes the Actress or just want
to make fun of her because bored seeing her talked so foolishly? I guess,
you have to read the forward mail by yourself to know about it

Last one:

Please, please do not hesitate to take a very loooooong time to think about every words that is about to come from your mouth. There is no point saying some stupid.

My day at 1st February 2008

Today is the first day of the February 2008. And as an opening, the rains pouring heavily on earth since early in the morning. For hours the rain keep on falling on us and only stop for a few minutes before keep on coming and coming. Almost every corner in Jakarta were on traffic jam for hours. Even the main street like Thamrin was flooded!

I was a bit worry that I have to walk my way home, but eventually around 2 or 3 PM, the rain finally stop and the street was a bit dry again. Thanks God the street near Atmajaya University has been repaired so I do not have to sacrifice my shoes by walking on a swamp.

Honestly, Atmajaya's located near a river and the street around it would turn into a creek whenever rainy season arrive which enough to make your shoes totally wet. I have been through that swamp for almost 2 years now. So, today I was really so relieved. Plus, I was allowed to go home early. Well, not so early. But going home 10 minutes earlier was great! The street already packed with people, waiting public transportation to bring them home. Again, I feel soooooooo lucky that all I have to do is wait to be picked up at Plaza Indonesia. Life is great :)

I spent the evening with Novi at Sushi Tei. And before that I bought Stardust and Bourne Identity at Periplus. Huh? Book again? Yep. I have decided that this year is a READING YEAR. Reading is a must to make this life a bit happier :)
